A village church ceremony in Catherine's childhood home of Linton, followed by mini golf, open-fire cooking, an orchard reception and a very good evening at Provenance Kitchen. We'd already had a brilliant time on their pre-wedding shoot earlier in the year, so I knew this one was going to be fun.
Catherine & Todd's Wedding Day
The morning started in Linton, the Cambridgeshire village where Catherine grew up. She got ready surrounded by family and bridesmaids before walking through the village to the church she'd attended growing up — which is a considerably nicer journey to your wedding ceremony than sitting in the back of a car.
Todd was waiting at the church with everyone else, and after the ceremony and a fairly enthusiastic confetti exit, the celebrations moved on to Provenance Kitchen.
We'd already spent a couple of hours together on a pre-wedding shoot earlier in the year, so by the time the wedding arrived we'd got the whole camera thing out of the way. They knew how I worked, I knew what made them comfortable, and we could just get on with the day.
A Wedding Reception at Provenance Kitchen
Provenance Kitchen is one of those venues that gives you plenty to work with without needing to go anywhere else.
The reception spaces have a relaxed, slightly rustic feel, but the real advantage photographically is the variety. You've got the restaurant and open-fire kitchen inside, gardens and outdoor spaces for guests to spread out, and the orchard just a short walk away when we want to disappear for portraits.
For Catherine and Todd, it meant the afternoon could be properly informal. Guests arrived, drinks started flowing, the mini golf came out and nobody needed to worry about moving anywhere again.
Which is generally a very good recipe for a wedding.
A Quick Walk Through the Orchard
Later in the afternoon, the light started doing something useful, so I borrowed Catherine and Todd for a quick walk through the orchard.
This is one of my favourite parts of Provenance for photographs. It's close enough that we don't need to properly disappear from the wedding, but visually it feels completely different from the reception spaces.
We had soft evening light through the trees, open fields just beyond them and about twenty minutes before heading straight back to everyone else.
No hour-long photoshoot required.
Into the Evening
Then it was back for speeches, dinner and the point where the daylight disappeared and Provenance took on a completely different feel.
The first dance got everyone moving, the dance floor filled up and the night eventually finished outside with sparklers - a suitably chaotic ending to a day that had started with a quiet walk through Linton.
Not a bad way to spend a Saturday in Cambridgeshire.

There's enough variety around the venue that we shouldn't need to travel anywhere once you arrive. The orchard and surrounding countryside are perfect for a quick portrait session, while the restaurant, gardens and open-fire kitchen give the rest of the gallery a completely different feel.
It's also well placed for weddings around Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire, particularly if - like Catherine and Todd - you're having your ceremony somewhere nearby before moving to Provenance for the reception.
